I'm unable to rate this cd. I will be purchasing the cd from the store this weekend. I placed an order on Friday November 20, 2009 and I have not received the cd. I have since filed a claim for a refund (from Amazon). Customers DO NOT ORDER from Snickers020587 C/O Kristine Crespo. Worst customer service ever.
But she can be really proud of being the only british female singer to have a debut on Billboard's 200 at #1 and the most important thing. Why she wasn't nominated for best new artist.
The ones that records an album that has 1 or 2 songs that are big hits but only last for a season and the ones that are very talented and their music lasts in time.Leona Lewis is one of those who last. She easily represents the new generation of big stars such as Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston and I don't mean in the sense of sellling albums, I mean in quality and talent (there are many good singers that ever find big commercial success but sing hundreds of times better than the ones who sell millions).
I think there are two types of music and singers. I can't really understand why she didn't win any Grammy with this production and even worse.
There are MANY of those cases. This album is a jewel that contains beautiful songs such as "Bleeding love" a song that doesn't need explaination. A truly big hit all over the world. Then this production has "Better in time", "Angel", "I'm you", "Forgive me" and in my opinion the best one, "I will be".Listening Leona perform is a true delight, her voice is impeccable and she really is a good performer.
This is one of the mysteries in music. She can be proud of her great talent and voice.
ITEM JUST AS DESCRIBED. FAST AND FRIENDLY. A REAL PLEASURE DOIN BUSINESS WITH. THANK YOU.
In fact, Spirit might as well have been released in 1990, the same year as Mariah's debut, as it virtually copies that album's formula (except Mariah had better songs). He measures success by quantity not quality, and Spirit has racked up a lot of sales. The rest of the tunes sound like second-rate copies of songs by the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Faith Hill. Frankly, the remaining material is of such mediocre quality that Lewis' impressive voice does not make up. With all the hype surrounding Leona Lewis, I was expecting to hear a knockout album. Will Lewis herself step up and ask for better material, or just leave it to the "experts" to guide her. But Simon Cowell's musical tastes are not very evolved, judging by the other artists he's "nurtured". That's probably what producers Simon Cowell and Clive Davis were going for: a safe, non-threatening entity that they could mold to fit their purpose: appeal to the largest audience possible. This is Lewis' first album, so there is time for her to develop.
He may not be willing or able to give Lewis what she truly needs to grow. While Lewis does indeed have a rich tone and Mariah-esque range, she lacks any real personality to set her apart from the dozens of female singers on the market today. How disappointed I was. While the leadoff song, Bleeding Love, is a very nice tune, it is the only standout song on the entire album. Not an encouraging sign. Even the album cover bears some similarities. There's safeness to her. Davis could, but will he, or has he too been seduced by the sales and hype. Her follow-up album, due out in November, will go a long way towards answering these questions one way or another.
Overall, it was a very good C.D. There was one song I didn't really like,(Misses Glass) but the rest of it was good (in my opinion)
